OVERVIEW

DiFluid Omix Green Coffee Analyzer

The DiFluid Omix is a complete green coffee analysis system in one compact instrument. It is designed for roasters, green coffee buyers, coffee laboratories and professionals who want to understand the physical condition of each lot before purchasing, storing or roasting it.

Through one structured measurement workflow, Omix provides data for Moisture, Water Activity, Bulk Density, estimated True Density, Screen Size, Bean Volume and environmental conditions at the time of testing.

With DiFluid Omix you can monitor:
  • Moisture content
  • Water Activity
  • Bulk Density
  • Estimated True Density
  • Screen Size
  • Average bean diameter
  • Bean volume
  • Environmental temperature
  • Relative humidity
  • Atmospheric pressure
  • Altitude

Know Your Green Coffee Before You Commit to a Lot

Visual inspection and cupping alone do not reveal every physical characteristic of a green coffee.

Omix adds objective measurement data to the evaluation process, allowing different lots, origins and deliveries to be compared using the same measurements and the same protocol.

This can be particularly useful when buying green coffee, receiving a shipment and monitoring coffee during storage.

Moisture: How Much Water Is Inside the Bean

Moisture content is one of the fundamental measurements used when evaluating green coffee.

It provides information about the amount of water contained within the bean and can be used when comparing lots, checking incoming coffee and monitoring changes during storage.

Moisture alone, however, does not provide the complete picture. This is why Omix combines moisture measurement with Water Activity.

Water Activity: It Is Not Only About How Much Water Is Present

Two green coffees may show similar moisture content while behaving differently over time.

Water Activity looks beyond the total amount of water and provides information about how available that water is to move within the product.

This makes it particularly useful when monitoring the condition of a coffee lot during storage and comparing new measurements with its original receiving data.

Moisture and Water Activity are not the same measurement

Moisture describes how much water is contained in the coffee, while Water Activity relates to the availability of that water. Measuring both provides a more complete view of the physical condition of green coffee.

Chilled-Mirror Dew-Point Measurement

The Omix platform uses Chilled-Mirror Dew-Point technology for Water Activity measurement.

The method determines dew point within a controlled measurement environment rather than relying solely on an indirect electrical-resistance estimate.

This allows coffee professionals to establish a more consistent protocol for monitoring their green coffee lots.

Bulk Density: Understand Coffee Structure

Bulk Density describes the mass of coffee in relation to the volume occupied by the complete sample.

It can be useful when comparing coffees from different origins, varieties, processing methods or growing conditions and can contribute valuable information during roast-profile development.

Recording density consistently allows roasters to create their own internal reference database for different origins and lots.

True Density: Looking Beyond the External Sample Volume

Omix also provides an estimation of True Density, adding another layer of information about the physical structure of the coffee beans.

Combined with Bulk Density, Moisture and Screen Size, this contributes to a more complete physical profile of each coffee lot.

Screen Size without a Separate Sieving Workflow

Bean size has traditionally been an important characteristic in green coffee classification.

Omix can provide Screen Size and average bean diameter data, making it easier to record the physical characteristics of each sample.

This information can be especially useful when evaluating lot uniformity or comparing different deliveries of the same coffee.

Bean Volume: More Information than Size Alone

In addition to diameter and Screen Size, Omix provides information about bean volume.

Combining size, volume and density helps describe the physical structure of a lot in greater detail and enables more meaningful comparisons between coffees.

Multiple Measurements in One Workflow

One of the key benefits of DiFluid Omix is the ability to combine several green coffee measurements in one instrument.

Instead of using separate tools for Moisture, Water Activity, Density and Screen Size, coffee professionals can establish one consistent quality-control workflow across their green coffee lots.

This reduces workflow complexity and helps ensure measurements are collected in a repeatable way.

Quality Control at Green Coffee Receiving

Omix can be used when a new coffee shipment arrives at the warehouse.

This creates an initial reference point for Moisture, Water Activity, Density, Screen Size and Volume.

The same lot can then be measured again later and compared with its original receiving data.

Monitor Coffee During Storage

Green coffee does not necessarily remain in the same condition from the day it arrives until the day it is roasted.

Warehouse conditions, packaging and time can all influence the physical condition of a lot.

Repeated measurements allow roasters to build a history for each coffee and identify changes instead of relying only on visual or sensory observation.

Environmental Conditions with Every Measurement

Omix also records information about the environment in which the measurement is taken.

  • Environmental temperature
  • Relative humidity
  • Atmospheric pressure
  • Altitude

Recording these conditions helps document each test more completely and supports more consistent quality-control procedures.

From Green Coffee Data to Roast Development

Omix data does not replace the experience of the roaster. It complements it.

Understanding moisture, density, bean structure and size can help a roaster understand differences between coffees before roast-profile development begins.

Over time, these measurements can become part of an internal database connecting green coffee characteristics with roasting decisions and results.

CoffeeOS: Keep Every Measurement Organized

DiFluid Omix connects with the CoffeeOS ecosystem, allowing measurement data to be organized by coffee and lot.

Instead of remaining isolated numbers, measurements can become part of the history of each coffee and can be compared over time.

This creates the possibility of tracking a lot from receiving through storage and eventual production use.

Simple Calibration for Consistent Measurements

Correct calibration is important when establishing a professional measurement protocol.

Omix is designed to integrate calibration into the regular workflow, helping maintain consistency between different testing sessions.

How to Use Omix in Practice

  1. Prepare a representative green coffee sample
  2. Fill the appropriate measurement container
  3. Level the sample carefully without compressing it
  4. Place Omix on the container
  5. Start the measurement process
  6. Review and record the results
  7. Store the data in CoffeeOS for future comparison

Consistent sample preparation is important when measurements need to be compared across different sessions.
